HTCHS ACCEPTABLE DEVICE REQUIREMENTS

 
In order to make our Hybrid school year possible, and beginning this school year, Holy Trinity Catholic High School is officially a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school.  As such, each student is required to have an acceptable mobile device to be used in the classroom and at home as required by the instructor.  Below are recommended device types in order of optimal recommendation to meet curriculum needs as utilized within Holy Trinity.   
 
1.  PC laptop with Microsoft Windows 10 Home or Pro (64 bit) – * Windows 10S is not acceptable for use.
 
Optimal Recommendation – compliant with 100% of classroom software requirements and learning tools.
 

•  Device should have a built-in camera. Or be able to support an attached webcam. This will be utilized for remote learning.

• Touchscreen with digital inking capability to facilitate handwriting and working mathematical and scientific problems directly on the device recommended but not required.
• Recommended minimum tech specs include i5/Ryzen 5 processor, 128GB SSD (Hard Drive), 8GB RAM (Memory).
• Must have active, up to date antivirus software installed.
• Device must be able to connect to 802.11n or better Wifi network for internet access.
• Device must have sufficient battery capacity to last the school day.
• Must have up-to-date web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
• Must install Microsoft Office365.

• Device should have a built-in camera. Or be able to support an attached webcam. This will be utilized for remote learning.
• Does not have touchscreen capabilities, some classes utilize this function to facilitate instruction. Work around is typing. Touchscreen not required.

• Must install Microsoft Office365.

• Device should have a built-in camera. Or be able to support an attached webcam. This will be utilized for remote learning.
• 11” screen size or higher is recommended minimum. Screen size should be considered for reading – iPad minis are not acceptable for use.
• Bluetooth accessory keyboard must be utilized to facilitate typing. On-screen keyboard is not acceptable.
• Device must be able to connect to 802.11n or better Wifi network for internet access.
• Device must have sufficient battery capacity to last the school day.
• Must have up-to-date web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
• Must install Microsoft Office Apps.
• Must install Google Apps.

• Device should have a built-in camera. Or be able to support an attached webcam. This will be utilized for remote learning.
• Chromebooks are acceptable for use at Holy Trinity but if a higher end device is an option we encourage students to seek out higher end devices.
• Device must be able to connect to 802.11n or better Wifi network for internet access.
• Device must have sufficient battery capacity to last the school day.
• Must be able to read, edit, create with Google apps and store on Google drive.
• Must have up-to-date web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
• Must install/support Microsoft Office Apps
• Must install/support Google Apps.
• NB: ultimately, Chromebooks will not be sufficient in the long-run because most cannot have needed software installed on them. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A CHROMEBOOK, we’ll work with you. If you are buying a new device, avoid a Chromebook.

• Student must be able to install any provided software as requested by their teacher on their device, thus requiring them to have privileged accounts configured on the laptop. (Ex: Microsoft Office, Photoshop, etc.)
• Must be able to read, edit, create with Google apps and store on Google drive (thanks to an up-to-date web browser)
• A protective case is highly recommended.
• Laptop weight and size (Laptops are carried all day to classes in backpacks or in hand).
• Device should have a built-in camera. Utilized for remote learning.
• Is there a warranty if the device is damaged?
• Antivirus is required. A couple of no cost solutions which can be utilized if desired are Avast https://www.avast.com/en-us/index) or AVG https://www.avg.com.
• While lower end model laptops with i3/Ryzen 3 processors may work OK initially, you may find the need to purchase another laptop during your child’s tenure due to decreased responsiveness, upgraded software requirements, security updates, operating system updates, etc.
• Students are expected to know how to operate their personal mobile devices on their own. Take this into consideration when choosing a device.

• Access to the internet will be permitted through the Holy Trinity wireless network only. Use of mobile hotspots, tethering to/from a device, or using VPN or other services to bypass the School’s security and filtering measures or for any other non-school approved purpose, is strictly prohibited.
• Students may connect one personal mobile device to the Holy Trinity Student wireless network at a time.
• Students must comply with Holy Trinity’s Acceptable Use Policy for Electronic Devices as defined in the https://www.holytrinitychs.org/student-parent-handbook.
